HOW TO LOOK REALLY EXPENSIVE ON A BUDGET

Want to look really expensive on a budget? Help is here.

Have you ever wondered how some women wear plain white shirts with jeans and still look like they are on the runway?

Looking expensive while on a budget can be daunting, especially for newbie style enthusiast.

If you have been following me on Instagram, you would know that I am a personal stylist for several people, and I also own a fashion business,  @desire1709.

If there is one thing I have learned as a personal stylist, all women want to look stunning despite their budget.

Today, I thought to share some tips on how to look expensive on a budget.

Tips on Looking Expensive While on a Budget

The first rule of shopping is that the more expensive a dress is does not necessarily connote quality.

You can still save money without sacrificing your style. Here are some helpful tips on how to look expensive on a budget!

  • Keep Whites White

White clothes only look sharp and expensive when they are white. Although it is not easy to keep your white clothes sparkling white (especially if you are living in busy environment like Lagos , Nigeria and commuting in public transport), it is still doable.

  • Pay Attention to Fittings

The easiest tip to looking good is fitting your clothes. You can pull of an expensive look with your cheapest and simplest dress, if you fit it to suit your body. Having a tailor will be the best investment for your wardrobe. Spend some money getting your inexpensive clothing tailored, and watch as you suddenly look expensive.

  • Monochromatic Colours are the Best

Monochromatic colours are the two most popular colours in the fashion industry and for good reason. You can have lots of fun mixing and matching colours against black and white.

  • Make Adjustments to Your Clothing

Tiny adjustments to your clothing make all the difference to your final outlook. These adjustments can be as minute as; rolling the sleeves of your shirts; tucking your tops into your skirts or trousers; wearing a silk scarf around your neck for visual effects; and even ironing your clothes. You may not be able to afford the latest trendy bags, but if you want to look expensive, you should afford to iron your clothes before heading out!

  • Pay Attention to Details

Expensive clothing is all about the fine details: quality fabrics and designs that show you are wearing a quality dress. The trick is to conceal details such as stains, holes, missing buttons, etc, that show you are wearing and low-quality dress.

Most people do not pay attention to how the seams of their shirts and pants sit, so by doing so; you will end up looking expensive. Also, replace any plastic buttons with buttons made of metal, cowries, or designs that will stand out.

If you have a tailor or know how to mend clothes, repairing your damaged clothes is a great way to stay within your budget and still look expensive.

  • Rent Clothes for Special Events

Do not go above your budget purchasing clothes you cannot afford for super special events.

  • Be Mindful When Showing Skin

Women look expensive and elegant, when they show little skin. I am not trying to tell anyone what to do with their bodies or what part of skin they should show, but there is a difference between looking expensive and looking stylish.

If you would like to highlight a favorite body part, to go for the ‘expensive look’ do it in moderation.

  • Expensive Look Requires Accessories

Knowing how to pair your accessories with your clothes is important. If you’re dressing for the evening, carry a clutch and not your work bag.

When purchasing accessories, know that the simpler the better, especially since you are on a budget. For example, pairing your attire with an inexpensive handbag that is covered in logos will end up cheapening your entire look. If you pair the same priced bag with less logos, it will elevate your look to an expensive one.
